I really enjoyed this book. It does an excellent job in painting a vivid picture of the post-Sundering Waterdeep (and of offering glimpses of the wider Realms), from its intrigues, with all the most powerful citizens plotting to steer Waterdeep towards what they think it's best for it (or for themselves), to the common people living their life, to the Xanathar and the Zentharim returning to the city (and to Skullport). Differently from other recent Ed Greenwood's books, Death Masks isn't truly about Elminster, but it shows Waterdeep and the post-Sundering Realms through the eyes of many ''main'' characters (including Mirt and Laeral Silverhand). Plus, looking into the mind of Laeral, now Open Lord of the city, reading about her struggles, of how things just aren't like they were for her and the other Chosen, felt like meeting an old friend after a long time of absence. There are many lore gems hidden in every chapter of the book, which were one of my favourite parts of the book. Information about Volo, the Seven Sisters, hints at what's coming for the Realms, or Eilistraee getting back in action, or news about what's changing in Waterdeep, and a lot of other easter eggs that will delight fans of the Forgotten Realms. If you like the Realms, then I think that you should definitely read this book.
