I loved this side story that takes place around the first book in the series but stars Phoenix Grey and showcases her first hunt. Since it takes place at that time get glimpses of scenes from Phoenix's side which was interesting. In truth this is more of a ghost story / hunt but I thought was fun and interesting for Phoenix to have to solve. A few light secrets are found too. But I really enjoyed the story and laughed a few times… ok sometimes at Phoenix herself. But had fun reading it.

She peaked in high school, so that's what she writes about. With her stories, Cristine Courcy has created her own genre: cozy dark fantasy. Dark fantasy with a light heart. And she promises to write every story with purposeful intention to keep the story as heartfelt and action-packed as possible, without adding unnecessary negativity or mature themes. There will be horror, there will be darkness, but she hopes at the end of every story, you feel uplifted and hopeful. (cliffhangers aside...)
