How do we continue living once we have lost our reason to live?

Rami and Bassam live in the city of Jerusalem – but exist worlds apart, divided by an age-old conflict. And yet they have one thing in common. Both are fathers; both are fathers of daughters – and both daughters are now lost.

When Rami and Bassam meet, and tell one another the story of their grief, the most unexpected thing of all happens: they become best of friends. And their stories become one story, a story with the power to heal – and the power to change the world.

'The book goes anywhere and everywhere. It is a delirious and thrilling improvisation, a jazz solo spun out of that meeting ... A spectacular structure of stories about everything' Bryan Appleyard, Sunday Times

If the author had stuck to the main story it would have been a good read however he elected to try and impress and include everything other than that in a jumbled confusing fashion

wonderful weaving in and out of historical fact and fiction around the Israel and palestine conflict. Feel sad reading it currently as it offered a more hopeful stance than the one we currently have.

Apeirogon by Colum McCann and narrated by the author, is a deeply moving and important novel. It tells the story of two men, one a Palestinian and the other an Israeli, not much in common one would have thought. However both men have something huge to connect them, they both lost a child directly because of the strife which tears their disputed territory apart. This novel underlines what I have always believed, wars of any size do not help anyone. They destroy families, friendships and communities, most of all they destroy the innocent. The only people who benefit from wars are the arms manufacturers and dealers and they may well be supplying illegally! Read this book, even if you think my ideas are rubbish, read or listen to it and then see what you think. There are no winners apart from those making money. I would give this more than five stars if at all possible, it is an event which should not be missed.
