About this ebook

A forgotten colony. A planet on the brink. A girl willing to risk everything for the brother she loves.

In Saving Mars—Book One of the Saving Mars series—readers are launched into a future where Earth has turned its back on Mars, and one daring pilot must defy gravity, orders, and the odds to keep her world alive. With food stores failing and the colony near collapse, sixteen-year-old Jessamyn Jaarda is chosen for a secret mission to Earth: to trade for ration bars and make it home undetected. But Earth believes Mars is long dead—and if Jess is discovered, her people may be lost for good.

Forced to fly under the radar, dodge military patrols, and outwit a corrupt consciousness-transfer program, Jess will risk everything to return to the red planet with hope still alive.

Perfect for fans of classic sci-fi with a modern twist, Saving Mars is trusted by homeschool families and ideal for readers aged 10–17 who crave adventure with heart.

Saving Mars garnered two prestigious teen book awards: Kirkus Reviews' Best of 2012, where it was listed in both best science fiction and best teen fiction, and the Spark Award Honor Book, given by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators in 2014. It is the first book in a young adult series featuring interplanetary adventure and romance, making it a great read for anyone who enjoys dystopian teen romance or young adult thrillers. (379pp.)

OMG I loved this book. I feel most assured that the author put lots of thought into how the entirety of the novel would flow, and definitely aced it all the way. This has been a fabulous journey from Mars to Earth. Included is lots of loss, drama, adventure, and a little romance thrown in, with more loss. Simply put, one of the best and well written books I've read in a while. Thanks for the first book in series being free, I have now found a new author that I will be looking for more from.

Just plain STUPID! The book started off well. Interesting, reasonably well written. Then it went into the crapper. The entire premise is based on something ludicrous. It went into stupidville. Completely lost interest, and threw it in the trash. Worthless. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Waste of time. Given this performance, I have no interest in anything else by this writer.

I couldn't put it down. Exciting, imaginative, and heart wrenching. I must have more... on to the next book in the series! 😋

About the author

Cidney Swanson is the award-winning author of the Ripple Series and the YA Mars series beginning with Saving Mars (Named to Kirkus Reviews' Best of 2012/SCBWI Spark Honor Book 2013.) When she’s not writing, Cidney is distracted by shinythings such as books with raised foil covers, macarons in jars, and stars setagainst an inky night sky. She lives in Eugene, Oregon with her husband, threekids, two cats, a dog, and entirely too much rain.
