This is Ava and Gabriel’s story and while I enjoyed the writing I found the story a little slower at the beginning than previous novels in the series. Ava has been sheltered in her witch clan and is kind of stuck with what to do now that college is finished when Gabriel shows up on what used to be Ava’s brother Tony’s doorstep where Ava now resides. The initial meeting I found somewhat improbable since Gabriel was someone she had never met and she invites him into the house. Other than those issues I felt Ms. Pope does a good job of showing growth in both Ava and Gabriel’s characters and the showdown that takes place with Gabriel’s clan was just stellar. I would have liked more Ava and Gabriel time at the end of the story showcasing how they were dealing with the tremendous changes they were experiencing. I am very much looking forward to the final book in the series not because it is the final book but because Elena’s story, I think will be so compelling. Thank you Christine Pope for the privilege of being part of the ARC team.

Another fantastic book by Christine Pope, Higher Ground picks up a few months after An Ill Wind. The story deals with Ava, Tony’s sister, as she helps Gabriel Escobar regain his powers stolen from him. It’s a good story with action and romance. Together they leave Santa Fe, Arizona, to go after the head of his family’s clan who is set to go after Ava’s family clan. Specifically, Miranda her cousin-in-law, whose family has a dark past the Escobar clan. Ava and Gabriel along with a few other Escobar family members work together to think of a plan to take out the head of the clan who is mad for revenge and power. As they travel through Central America, Ava and Gabriel develop a friendship that turns to romance the more time they spend together. The story is really good. While it's not my favorite book in the series, it's still a good read. I can’t wait for the next book.

Oh my! Higher ground from the witches of Canyon Hill series is amazing. This is another “can’t be put down” book. In this story, we meet yet another Castillo member and follow her adventure into another clan. The book is a beautiful romantic novel set in the background of Santa Fe and eventually ends up in the San Salvador region where yet another witch clan is situated and in desperate need of a good leader. The main characters face many obstacles. I do not want to give away the details but highly suggest reading the story and actually the whole series even though each story seems separate, it is best to read each novel in order. Enjoy!
