Bury the Hatchet

*An ARC was provided for an honest review* Bury the Hatchet is an awesome start to Catherine Gayle’s new Tulsa Thunderbirds series! We all have fallen in love with the Portland Storm guys, but now we have a whole new group of guys to get to know and there are even a few familiar faces in the mix too. Hunter Fielding was happy with the Portland Storm and while he is one of the best goalies in the league, it didn’t stop them from allowing him to be claimed in the expansion draft by the new Tulsa Thunderbirds team. To say Hunter wasn’t thrilled is an understatement and a few unsavory comments about Oklahomans have landed him in really, really hot water. When Hunter shows up to meet with the teams top brass for the first time, they have what they think is the perfect solution to get their star goalie back in the good graces of the locals. Tallulah Belle Roth has known nothing but pageants her entire life and one night of just being a normal twenty-one year old has blown apart her opportunity to ascend to the top of the pageant ladder when her title of Miss Oklahoma USA is stripped from her. For a girl who has always been the “it” girl she has now found herself falling from grace. In order to get her back in high esteem with her fellow Oklahomans, it’s been decided that she and Hunter will be married, within days, and will put on the show of their lives for the next year to rehabilitate both of their images. What you get when you throw two people into a marriage that a) don’t know one another and b) are insanely attracted to each other, is one crazy relationship. Both Tallie and Hunter are willing to do what they have to do in public to make everyone believe they are head over heels in love, but it’s when they are behind closed doors that it is becoming harder and harder for them to deny that the things they are feeling toward one another are real feelings and not just the product of this fake marriage. Will Tallie learn that her life is now her own and that means she can do anything she wants, including have her husband? Will Hunter’s brother cause more problems for them than they could have every imagined? And, is there a bigger threat out there that neither of them recognized at first? I fell in love with Hunter and Tallie. This was a couple that I wanted to see make it from the first second they met. It was obvious that both of them had something to offer the other that they had not been able to find anywhere or with anyone else. Catherine Gayle wove another fantastic story and I like that Hunter had the edge that he did. I’m looking forward to the next installment of this series in the fall. I’d highly recommend this one for sure!

The story is great, I fell in love with Hunter and Tallie. However, I felt that the there was less conversing and too much narrating. We were also left hanging with regards some of the characters in the book. Was hoping there was more of this book. But it was a great story.

I felt like this book was a missed opportunity. it had a great plot. the story could have developed spectacularly. however it never did. why? because the author decided narrating the story was better than dialogue. the hero and heroine had potential to have some of the best and unique chemistry but somehow it fell flat. the brother at rehab was never explored. the heroines mother not explored. even the villain we never got clarity about his state of mind. the saving grace was the niece even though her part did not fill a page. this book is an absolute anticlimax
