De afgelopen jaren heeft de traumatologie zich sterk ontwikkeld. De traumazorg in Nederland heeft een stevige, kwalitatief hoogwaardige en logische structuur die in menig ander Europees land nog ontbreekt. Met de moderne beeldvormende technieken is de traumaopvang enorm verbeterd. Preventie, nieuwe operatietechnieken en verbeterde nazorg dragen bij aan de kwaliteit. Een grotere transparantie van de Landelijke Traumaregistratie en verdere centralisatie van multitraumapatiënten en patiënten met complexe letsels zijn noodzakelijk. De zorg voor multitraumapatiënten is kosteneffectief; er is echter meer geld voor onderzoek nodig om de zorg verder te onderbouwen en te verbeteren.
