Hector Hugh Munro, better known by his pen name Saki, was a master of the short story whose wit and satirical prowess have left an indelible mark on English literature. Born on December 18, 1870, in Akyab, Burma (now Myanmar), Munro's early life was marked by tragedy, as his mother died when he was just two years old.
