In this world around us we come across many misfortunes, hardships. Who causes them? Man is not the only one responsible for it. It is not just his wickedness that causes it. His intellectual and soulful feebleness is as much responsible. There is a steady conflict between our two minds. One blindly abides by all the natural feelings and one votes for the cultural aspects of the society. Common man fails to unveil the curtain over the conflict to find the truth. He is simply unable to picture the vastness of humanity beautifully on the background of the problems and questions created because of the machines. Till these problems are solved and these questions are answered, everbody`s life will be shadowed during this reformative phase.
विसाव्या शतकाचा मध्यकाळ हा सुधारणावादी आंदोलनानंतर आकाराला आलेल्या स्वतंत्र भारताचा काळ! या काळानं केवळ देशालाच नव्हे तर इथल्या माणसालाही स्वतंत्र केलं. विशेषत: स्री स्वतंत्र झाली तशी साहित्यात तिच्या अंतरमनातील घालमेल प्राधान्यानं चित्रित होऊ लागली. ‘बुद्धाची गोष्ट’मधील वि. स. खांडेकरांच्या या कथांतून स्री मनाचं विस्तारित आकाश, तिच्या अंतर्मनातील द्वंद्व, प्रलोभन प्रवाह, सांसारिक पाश, मातृत्वाचा ओलावा यांना साद घालत संवेदना हरवलेल्या समाजाची कहाणी सांगतो. गेल्या पंचवीसशे वर्षात दुसरा बुद्ध न जन्मणे ही कशाची खूण असा प्रश्न करणाNया या कथा त्यांच्या जन्मानंतरच्या गेल्या पासष्ट वर्षांनंतरही विचार म्हणून समकालिक वाटतात.
