Bekanntlich haben Marx und Engels die Utopien ihrer Zeit zugunsten des wissenschaftlichen Sozialismus als spekulativ abgelehnt, insofern konnte der Zusammenbruch des dogmatisierten Realsozialismus auch nicht das Ende der Utopie bedeuten. Utopien werden hier anders gesehen, nämlich als Modelle sozialen und politischen Theoretisierens, wobei im Unterschied zu vielen Darstellungen auch die Frauenutopien und die prinzipielle Utopiekritik berücksichtigt werden, um das ganze Spektrum des Utopiendiskurses einzufangen.
