Anna Iankova was just fourteen years old when in 1972 she suffered severe injuries to her spine. Her life-dream was to become a famous ballerina. Soon after the accident she continued visiting her ballet school on a wheel chair just to watch the rehearsals and training classes. It was then that she developed a strong interest and talent in photographing the young female students. She saw herself in the aspiring ballerinas and by now she had become content with the reality that she would never become one.
Her photographic work gave her inspiration and a new perspective of life which she has immersed herself into since. For more than forty years she has captured the beauty of the daily struggles these young girls have to endure in becoming the elegant dancers of ballet that everyone marvels at on the stage.
