About this ebook

I was the Fool-king of Soho and the number-one slag in the Groucho Club, the second drunkest member of the world's drunkest band. This was no disaster, though. It was a dream coming true.'

For Alex James, music had always been a door to a more eventful life. But as bass player of Blur - one of the most successful British bands of all time - his journey was more exciting and extreme than he could ever have predicted. In Bit of a Blur he chronicles his journey from a slug-infested flat in Camberwell to a world of screaming fans and private jets - and his eventual search to find meaning and happiness (and, perhaps most importantly, the perfect cheese), in an increasingly surreal world.

As a Blur fan, I had a good time reading it. Alex has a profound way with words & his writings are exceptionally engaging. One of the books that reformed one of the UK's greatest bands.

Really enjoyed this, not just as a memoir for Blur fans but as a snapshot of the British music scene in the 90s. It's a candid account of what it's like to become a famous rock star, but without ending up in rehab. Alex is a surprisingly engaging writer- I assume no ghost- and has a chatty, conversational turn of phrase as if he's telling you all this over a pint and a pie. Highly recommended for anyone who used to read NME every week.

Overall, a good but short book of Alex describing his life from college to his days with Blur.
