This volume explores cognitive ergonomics, which is concerned with mental processes—otherwise known as brain work. It discusses perception, memory, reasoning, and motor response, as they affect interactions among humans and other elements of a system. Topics will include mental workload, decision-making, skilled performance, human-computer interaction, human reliability, work stress and training as these relate to human-system design. This book brings together a wide-ranging set of contributed articles that address emerging practices and future trends in cognitive engineering and neuroergonomics– both aim to harmoniously integrate human operator and computational system, the former through a tighter cognitive fit and the latter a more effective neural fit with the system.
