This nonfiction picture book tells the true story of how one Anna's hummingbird built a nest and raised her chicks on a family's balcony in the city. It's told from the perspective of a young boy, Noah, who observes the mother hummingbird building her nest, caring for her eggs, feeding her young and finally preparing them to leave the nest.
This STEM title includes facts about Anna's hummingbirds, including where they live, what they look like and how they pollinate flowers. It also discusses threats to hummingbirds from pollution, pesticides, urban predators and climate change.
It includes tips for young readers on what to do if they find an injured or orphaned hummingbird, and how to create a safe home for hummingbirds in their backyard or balcony.
The book is illustrated with photographs from the author. She captured images of this individual Anna's hummingbird over the course of several months.
Isabelle Groc is a writer, wildlife photographer, filmmaker and speaker who focuses on wildlife natural history and conservation. She has published three books in the Orca Wild series including Gone is Gone, Sea Otters and Conservation Canines.

Isabelle Groc is a writer, wildlife photographer, filmmaker and speaker who focuses on environmental issues, wildlife natural history and conservation, endangered species and the changing relationships between people and their environments. Her stories and photographs have appeared in numerous publications, and her wildlife films have been shown in communities and festivals around the world. Isabelle is the author of Gone Is Gone, Conservation Canines and Sea Otters in the Orca Wild series. Born in the South of France, with family roots in Spain, Isabelle now lives in Vancouver.
