Financial limitations led him to a career at the Bank of England, where he rose through the ranks. During this time, he published several collections of essays and stories which showcased his understanding of childhood. However, it was The Wind in the Willows that earned him lasting literary fame. The novel, with its beloved animal characters and enchanting depiction of the English countryside, continues to be cherished by listeners of all ages.
