The Silent Vulture by Advitya Ray

Terror in the Dakhma

Mumbai’s Malabar Hill Parsi colony is alive with rickshaws, markets, and families in May 2025. But a scary mark in Farhad Daruwala’s house signals danger from the Dakhma, a Tower of Silence where Parsis leave their dead for vultures. The Silent Vulture by Advitya Ray is a thrilling horror story about fear, family, and fighting a creepy force called the Vulture’s Breath. Fear traps grief—these three words will hook you, making you want to read right now!

A Father’s Brave Fight

Farhad, a dad who lost his wife, loves his kids, Zarin and Cyrus. Zarin is bold and smart, Cyrus is quiet but strong. When the Vulture’s Breath turns their sadness into shades—shadowy figures stuck in a weird feather city—they join their Parsi neighbors to stop it. There’s Firoza, a historian with big ideas, Priya, a journalist hunting truth, Ervad Behram, a priest with old prayers, and Banu, a teacher who doubts but learns to believe. They use Zoroastrian rituals, tied to the Dokhmenashini tradition, to battle this force. Advitya Ray shows a family and community standing together, fighting fear with love.

Mumbai’s Scary World

Imagine Mumbai’s busy streets—rickshaws honking, monsoon rain falling, and the Dakhma’s dark stones looming. The Parsi colony feels real, with old bungalows, fire temples, and community halls. The Dakhma, where vultures once ate the dead to free souls, is now a place of terror, powered by the Vulture’s Breath. Ray makes every detail pop—dusty lanes, glowing divo lamps, and the clash of Parsi traditions with today’s world. This book feels like you’re in Mumbai, scared but hooked.

Why It’s a Must-Read

The Silent Vulture grabs you with scary moments and heartfelt family bonds. It’s about how grief can hurt if you don’t let go, and how Parsis balance old ways with modern life. The Vulture’s Breath makes sadness dangerous, turning pain into shades that haunt the feather city. With real-feeling colony notices and people’s stories, it’s like reading a true 2025 mystery. Every chapter is different—dark houses, sacred rituals, crowded meetings—keeping you glued. Fans of horror, family stories, and Parsi culture will love it. Readers say it’s “a fear you feel,” “Mumbai’s scariest tale,” and “a book that haunts you.”

על המחבר

Advitya Ray is a Indian storyteller—an actor, writer, director, and editor—Born in Bihar and raised in Nagpur, Advitya was always drawn to the magic of storytelling. Even as a child, he found joy in theatre—writing, directing, and performing school plays, capturing imaginations long before he ever stepped into a professional studio.

At the age of 15, Advitya picked up a camera and began creating short films with his friends. These small experiments soon turned into passionate projects, leading him to launch a YouTube channel, where he shared socially aware, heartfelt short films—all written, directed, and edited by him.

During his college years, he founded A Thespis Theatre Group, earning praise for his expressive performances and powerful storytelling on stage. His journey then brought him to Mumbai, the city of dreams, where he took a leap of faith to pursue filmmaking full-time. There, he trained at a theatre school, worked as an Assistant Director on web series, and acted in short films and music videos—continuously sharpening his craft in both front and behind the camera.

In 2022, Advitya worked on NFDC documentary ‘A Son of Himalaya’, taking on the role of Creative Director and Editor. His work stood out for its visual depth and emotional storytelling. This collaboration led him to direct a documentary series on the life and legacy of Ranjit Kapoor, the legendary writer and director. This biography, produced by Aaditrie Dipika, is a deeply respectful and artistic tribute to one of Indian theatre and cinema’s greatest minds.

Along with Aaditrie Dipika, he co-founded A18 Films, Rigel Collective, and A Thespis Theatre Group. These creative collectives focus on film, theatre, and documentary work, while also offering space and support to new storytellers and artists.

But storytelling doesn’t stop with film for Advitya. He is also an author, and his love for writing runs deep. In 2025, he published his first novel, ‘The Skull Throne of Aghor Kali’, a bold and dark mythological horror. Encouraged by Aaditrie Dipika, who recognized his gift for storytelling, he took the plunge into literature—a decision that unlocked yet another dimension of his creativity.

Through his books, Advitya invites readers into worlds that are eerie, magical, and deeply thought-provoking. His goal is simple yet powerful: to tell stories that linger in your mind long after the final page is turned.
