He killed two and wounded one. He went on to kill one man and injure fourteen others, in a subsequent drive-by shooting spree. #2 Incels, or involuntary celibates, are a group of mostly young, heterosexual men who believe they are entitled to and have been deprived of sex with hot young women. They typically post online about their desire for sex and love not just for their own sake, but also for instrumental reasons: to buy status in masculine hierarchies. #3 It is important to understand that incels are just a symptom of a much broader and deeper cultural phenomenon. They crystallize some men’s toxic sense of entitlement to have people look up to them steadfastly, with a loving gaze, admiringly. #4 Incels differ in the degree to which they are proactive versus reactive. Elliot Rodger was largely the latter, never making a serious effort to go on dates. He was prone to petty vengeance against happy couples he saw out and about, who aroused his envy and rage.
