Shattered Vows

As soon as my son Evan Nguyen was born, Marco Nguyen divorced me and had a grand wedding with Camilla Lennox.

Evan and I were kicked out of home and ended up on the streets.

Just when I plumbed the depth of despair, Commander Arthur Morrell married me and promised to be with me forever.

Five years later, however, I overheard his conversation with one of his subordinates.

"Evan turns five next month. His heart blood can finally be harvested. Have the doctor perform the procedure on his birthday night. Camilla's cure depends on this."

"Commander Morrell, Mrs. Morrell loves her baby boy. If she knows, she'll be heartbroken."

"I have no choice. Only Evan's heart blood could save Camilla. I'll spend my whole life making it up to Leticia."

I froze, icy dread gripping me as tears blurred my vision.
