Captured by the Kiowa war chief Satanta, Adrianne Chastain must learn to adapt to a new culture and locate her missing grandchild while fighting her growing feelings for the tribe that adopted her.

This prequel to Haseloff's Kiowa Verdict, winner of the 1997 Western Writers of America's Spur Award, fleshes out the story of beautiful widow Adrianne Chastain and her abductor, Kiowa war chief Satanta.

A thirty-something rancher, Chastain, both a mother and a grandmother, sees her daughter and one of her granddaughters killed in an Indian raid. She, her young son, and two other granddaughters are captured. Her son is subsequently killed by Satanta, and one of the granddaughters is taken away by a band of Comanches, the Kiowa's allies.

Written with great sensitivity and strength, Haseloff's story deals with Chastain's life among the Kiowas; her feelings for her abductor and his feelings for her; and Satanta's eventual capture, imprisonment, and death. 關於作者

Cynthia Haseloff was born in Eagle Flats, Texas in 1948. She won a State American Legion Oratorical Award in high school before receiving her B. A. and M. A. at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She later earned a Ph.D. from Stephens College. Besides having a career as a writer, Haseloff worked in her family's recreation business, produced audio visual material, taught high school English, and served as a publications advisor at the school. She also is a member of the Western Writers of America and past board member of Shiloh Museum and Washington County Historical Society. Haseloff has written Ride South! and The Kiowa Verdict: A Western Story, which won a Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Western Novel.
