About this audiobook

Was the Civil War really about slavery? Or was it a war fought over money? Civil War historian Samuel W. Mitcham Jr. (Vicksburg, Bust Hell Wide Open) opens his fascinating new book, It Wasn’t About Slavery, with Dr. Grady McWhiney’s claim that “what passes as standard American history is really Yankee history written by New Englanders or their puppets to glorify Yankee heroes and ideals.” Relying on nineteenth-century sources, Mitcham lays out his case that slavery was not the primary cause of the Civil War and that the Civil War narrative taught in schools today is wildly misleading.

While well researched and explained, the lack of a bibliography for this type of book, drops 5 stars to 4. The book moves chronologically through the 19th century building up to the American Civil War. It does a good job of explaining the events that many of us know, in the context of the time they took place in and from the point of views of both the northern states and those of the south. It even goes into detail on the immediate events leading up to shots being first fired. Great Listen!

The author spells out very correctly the trade policies and attitudes of Licoln's Federal fascist dictatorship and vendetta v the Southern states. Lincoln violated so many parts of the Constitution in trying desperately to hold southern states back from sussession. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents any state from suspension, even today. Rev. Rich A Salzer, Virginia

Besides the inflammatory title, all you need to do to understand the fallacy of this racist diatribe is read any southern state’s Articles of Secession. The central theme of every one is white supremacy and slavery.
