About this audiobook

A university lecturer and his PhD student embark on a research trip to a remote village in England to write about its dark history.

They think they know some of the stories. A burglar shot dead; a tragedy on the train tracks; and remnants of psychological experiments from the Cold War. But as they meet the inhabitants of Renslow, and try to make sense of their sometimes-odd behaviour, they wonder how much of this is connected, and how much is just them seeing patterns.

‘A fantastic mix of Twin Peaks, British rural hauntology, The X-Files, contemporary true crime drama and the psychogeographic world of Minimum Labyrinth’.

I enjoyed this immensely! good story...a bit dark but spiced up with a little mirth. the fact that it was presented akin to a radio story...the characters speaking for themselves together with sound effects, made all the difference. wish all audiobooks could be presented like this. very good book, thank you.

This story is very well thought-out and is set in a fictional East Anglian village inhabited by inexplicably eccentric folk. Apparently mind-control experiments by intelligence agencies at a local hospital are to blame. It is loosely based on the 20 YO case of the Norfolk farmer who shot two burglars, fatally wounding one of them. The plot is a good clean one which is steeped in espionage and touches on fear, tragedy, sorrow and the mystique of 80's tech. You too could live in Bluebird world!

An oddly intriguing story. Although the music throughout and at the ending of chapters was absolutely diabolical and nearly stopped my listening.
