Of Those Called

Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936) created tales for children and short stories. He traveled on the route India - Burma - Singapore - China - Hong Kong - Japan - the USA - England. He became so popular that British officers imitated the manner of speech of Kipling's characters.

"Of Those Called" was first published in the Civil and Military Gazette, July 13, 1889. It depicts a shipwreck. A ship got into a thick fog and its engines broke. At that time the crew had heard the whistle of another ship. After that the vessel was rammed.
