John Mercer had always been drawn to the darker side of life. As a child, he'd spend hours exploring abandoned buildings and reading horror stories, much to his parents' dismay. His fascination with the macabre began early, sparked by a chance encounter in his grandmother's attic at the tender age of seven.
On a rainy afternoon, while his parents chatted downstairs, young John had ventured into the musty space filled with forgotten treasures. In a dusty corner, he discovered an old leather-bound journal belonging to his great-grandfather, a man he'd never met but had heard whispered stories about. The journal was filled with accounts of supernatural encounters and arcane rituals, complete with detailed sketches that both terrified and captivated the boy.
From that day forward, John's appetite for the mysterious and unexplained was insatiable. He devoured every ghost story and urban legend he could find, much to the concern of his parents and teachers. While other children his age were playing sports or video games, John was convincing his reluctant friends to join him on expeditions to supposedly haunted houses in their small town.
As he entered his teenage years, John's obsession only intensified. He became a regular at the local library, poring over books on parapsychology, folklore, and occult practices. His room transformed into a makeshift paranormal research center, walls plastered with newspaper clippings of strange occurrences and shelves lined with oddities he'd collected on his explorations.
