I loved this book when I first read it. Nona's mastery of the language is as impressive as Joseph Conrad's and so much less pedantic. The audio version is even more remarkable. Perhaps this is because i am a highly audio person or just because the voice of the narrator was so magical and engageing. Either way, it's the perfect holiday gift. I cannot wait to see the movie version whihc is in the works.

As a huge lover of fashion, Paris and magical realism, I was sure that I was going to love Magic in Mauve right from the very start – and how right I was! This was such a lovely, cosy read that I devoured in just a couple of sittings, and would have done so even quicker had other life requirements not gotten in the way. If you too enjoy your novels based in a contemporary setting but with threads of magical realism running throughout, very much akin to Cecelia Ahern or Carrie Hope Fletcher’s work, then I highly recommend you give this offering from Nonna Gerikh a read. Both light-hearted, magical and fun but still touching upon some serious topics such as feminism, friendship and relationships, this is a truly heart-warming story about finding and creating your own happiness, a message I think we all need to hear at times. Revolving around the lives of three women, Monique, Zorina and Alison, and the magical ways in which a skirt brings them together, this very much gave me The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants vibes but with an even more magical twist! I absolutely loved getting to know this colourful cast of women throughout the book, and each of their individual storylines were equally as intriguing and compelling. The character development throughout was wonderfully handled, and the ways in which their lives intersected was again fantastically written. I should note here that I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Carolyn Jania, and she did a fantastic job of telling the story in a way that felt both engaging and relaxing. I really enjoyed her narrative style, and would definitely look out for more audiobooks from her in the future. This is definitely a new comfort read for me, and I have a feeling that I’ll be returning to Magic in Mauve when I’m in need of a little magic myself. Whimsical, uplifting and honestly such a joy to read, I’m already looking forward to reading more from Nonna Gerikh and cannot recommend this one highly enough – wonderful!
