Leander Brooks has built a happy life in the human world, but his elvish roots are calling. Those words hung there as Michael sat stunned. He started giggling uncontrollably. “An elf!” He kept giggling. He pictured the elves he had seen in cartoon commercials for cookies or the ones always taking a backseat to Santa Claus.
Leander continued talking in the same calm, measured tone. “Yes, an elf. I know it’s hard for you to believe, but that’s why I don’t talk about my family much. We are elves, an old elf family. This will be the first time I’ve been home in four years. I’m not sure I’m ready. They don’t like the fact that I love humans."
