relationship-issues, relationships, relatives, religious-symbolism, murder, murder-investigation, Native-American, cultural-exploration, cultural-heritage, law-enforcement, amateur-sleuth, rivalry, friction, friendship, shamanic-visions, honeymoon, closed-circle-mystery, secrets, hunting-camp***** Shandra is an artisan/shamanic dreamer/amateur sleuth and her brand-new husband is Idaho law enforcement. The new owner/heir of the hunting camp in a wilder area of eastern Oregon is a former USAF officer and pilot and cousin to the camp's new owner. Gabriel Hawke is Oregon law enforcement/Fish and Wildlife/Native tracker extraordinaire. (One of my failings is not being able to differentiate tribes any better than I can differentiate Europeans-except for we of Nordic heritage) Shandra and Ryan arrive for their honeymoon to a lot of contentiousness at the camp. The heir named was a great surprise all around. Before nightfall one of the most vociferous was found murdered. There went the chance for a pleasant escape for Ryan! Next lawman on site is Hawke and while the men get along famously, the investigation does NOT go smoothly. A great read! I felt disconcerted at first because my main addiction to the author's books is that of Gabriel Hawke, and here he is a newly introduced character as are the characters at the hunting camp. I won the audio in a giveaway and Ann M Thompson has a gift for interpretation and differentiation of characters. My only jarring note was listening to someone else interpret Hawke.

Shandra and Ryan are finally married and are on their honeymoon. They are staying at Shandra’s cousin's remote hunting cabin in the mountains. When a man goes missing all signs pot to him being murdered Shanda’s cousin is a suspect. When State Trooper Hawke arrives to investigate things get interesting for Shandra and Ryan. This is a great mystery. It is well-plotted with plenty for surprises. The characters are interesting. My favorite character is Shandra, she is smart, strong, caring, and compassionate. The new character Trooper Hawke is interesting and really add this book with his tracking abilities. The listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator is great at capturing the characters' personalities. She has a pleasant voice that allows you to lose yourself in the story. I recommend this book to mystery lovers. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.
