Summary: Our journeys are unique, and as we get older we should be better able to help shape the following generations using our gifts and experience, but past failures, pride, insecurity etc in a fragmented Western culture that prizes individualism have helped create seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Reliance on programs and the professionalization of ministry have tended to hinder more natural connections between the generations.

By reading this you will:

1. Gain a better understanding of the history of mentoring, and its biblical basis.

2. Better appreciate typical hindrances to effective mentoring.

3. Consider biblical characters who mentored others, and how they point us to Christ.

4. Gain clarity regarding your own unique skills, interests and knowledge.

5. Understand the components essential to a solid mentoring relationship.

6. Recognize how you can start to invest practically in young adults, and put yourself at God's disposal to help them.

This is an excellent little book that is clear on what mentoring is and how it is biblical. It is highly readable, with helpful testimonials and illustrations that show the lasting impact a good mentor can have on another fellow brother or sister. It was a great reminder of how invaluable a work it is to walk alongside another believer in Christ and this book is a great place to start if wondering what mentoring practically looks like. I especially love that the word of God has such a high status in this book and proves that real lasting growth and personal change comes through understanding God's word together and applying it to real lives. It's clear that mentoring another believer brings great joy.. The title of the book could easily have been 'mentoring - God's pathway to joy'..

Every generation there needs to be a new book on mentoring. Those illusive millennials like myself are either nowhere to be seen in church or are struggling to make their way in a culture that prides itself in just being true to yourself, whilst yearning for a sense of belonging. The result is generational schism and segregation, as well as a lack of intergenerational This is a book that corrects much of the spirit of the age that's infected churches. As one such millenial who is weathering the current generational storm, I would recommend this book. There are a number of minor people in my life who have had major significance for my walk with Christ. I have gone on to mentor others. Perhaps you are considering taking a younger man or woman under your wing for a season but aren't sure how. This is an immensely biblical and practical guide to doing that. Fraser's calming Aberdonian tones in the audiobook guide you through the bible. He draws a lot on his breadth and depth of experience in pastoral ministry. It's three hours of my life that I thoroughly enjoyed.

God Uses your gifts, circumstances, choices and people encounters to transform you, meaning that every person has something they can pass to others, no matter whether they learned it through wise or unwise means. Younger generations need to know what you have learned. The book breathes passion for mentoring & equips you with a practical guide.
