આ ઑડિયોબુક વિશે

Mary and Dan Jackson had sought sanctuary, a retreat from the incessant hum of city life. Their new home, nestled deep in the countryside, promised solitude, a commodity Dan desperately needed to finalize his collection of short stories and accompanying audiobooks.

The urban cacophony had become a suffocating blanket, stifling his creativity. Mary, equally burdened by the pressures of her work and Dan's mounting stress, wholeheartedly embraced the move. Little did they know that their dream home harbored a nightmare, one that would soon turn their idyllic escape into a terrifying prison.

Life in the secluded house began promisingly. The quiet was a balm to their frayed nerves, and Dan found his productivity soaring. Mary, too, felt a sense of renewed energy. But the peace was fragile, a deceptive calm before a storm brewed just beneath the surface.

One afternoon, Mary, taking a break from unpacking boxes, wandered into Dan's study, a sanctuary of organized chaos, filled with towering stacks of books and scattered notes. She noticed a bare patch on the wall behind his desk.

"Dan," she said, her voice a soft counterpoint to the frantic tapping of his keyboard, "did you notice that?"

Dan, eyes glued to the screen, barely registered her presence. "Notice what, darling?

Don't tell me the roof is leaking already."

Mary gestured towards the wall. "There used to be a picture, or a painting, hanging there. I'm sure I saw it when we first toured the house."

Dan swiveled in his chair, a frown etching itself onto his face. "A painting? I honestly didn't pay attention. I was too busy imagining all the gruesome murders I could commit in this place... for the books, of course." He chuckled a dry, humorless sound. "Look, I don't really care. If you want to hang something there, go ahead. Just don't ask me to help. I'm on a deadline."

Mary's eyes narrowed slightly. "You know, we haven't explored the attic yet."

Dan sighed dramatically. "Mary, honey, I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm in the zone. Ideas are flowing like… well, like blood from a severed artery. I can't be distracted by dusty antiques and cobwebs."

"But what if there's something beautiful up there? An old masterpiece just waiting to be rediscovered?" Mary persisted, her voice laced with a playful excitement.

"Why don't you go ahead and check it out? I've still got a mountain of work to do, and I wouldn't want this perfectly brewed coffee you made me to get cold." He gestured to the steaming mug on his desk.

"Well, alright then. I'll let you know if I find an old painting or picture to hang." She turned to leave, a hint of disappointment in her voice.

"Okay, have fun," Dan said, a forced smile plastered on his face as he turned back to his computer. "But be careful up there. Attics are notorious for harboring… things." He muttered the last word under his breath, a shiver running down his spine despite himself.

Mary, fueled by curiosity and a desire to escape the oppressive atmosphere of Dan's study, eagerly headed towards the attic stairs. The air grew colder with each step, the scent of dust and decay filling her nostrils. As she ventured into the dimly lit space, she was surprised by the sheer volume of forgotten treasures.

Antique furniture draped in white sheets, stacks of yellowed books, and boxes overflowing with forgotten trinkets filled every corner. But what immediately caught her eye was a large object covered by a heavy canvas sheet, resting against the far wall. It was the exact size and shape of a framed painting, the missing piece of the puzzle from Dan's study.

"Why would someone hide this away?" she murmured to herself, a sense of anticipation building within her. "Maybe it's something truly special."

Her heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, Mary reached out and slowly pulled the sheet away. The revealed painting sent a jolt of surprise through her. It was indeed very old, the canvas cracked and faded with age. The subject matter, however, was far from comforting. It depicted a solitary monk, his face gaunt and severe. But it was his eyes that held Mary captive, eyes that seemed to pierce through the canvas, malevolent and filled with an ancient, unsettling knowledge.

They were eyes that seemed to see directly into her soul, sending a shiver crawling up her spine.

"Good heavens," she whispered, recoiling slightly. "He looks… sinister."

Despite the unsettling feeling, she couldn't deny the painting's captivating power. There was an undeniable artistry in the brushstrokes, a dark beauty that drew her in. And a strange, almost hypnotic allure emanated from the monk's eyes.

"It must be valuable," she reasoned, her mind already calculating the potential worth of such an antique. "Imagine what this could fetch at auction!"

Overruling her initial apprehension, Mary decided to bring the painting down to show Dan. Maybe he’d appreciate it more in the light of day. She carefully lifted the heavy frame and, with a grunt of effort, began the descent back to the study.

Dan barely looked up when Mary re-entered the room, the painting held precariously in her arms. "Well? Find anything interesting?" he asked, his voice still preoccupied.

Mary propped the painting against the wall, the monk's gaze now fixed on Dan's back. "I found this. What do you think?"

Dan finally turned around, his eyes widening slightly as he took in the painting. "Whoa. That's… intense. A bit morbid for my taste, but hey, if you like it, knock yourself out." He shrugged. "Just don't expect me to hang it. I'm allergic to dust."

Mary, ignoring his flippant remark, carefully lifted the painting and positioned it on the bare patch of wall. As she hammered the nail into place, a strange sensation washed over her, a feeling of unease that settled deep in her stomach.

"There," she said, stepping back to admire her handiwork. "Perfect."

The moment the painting was securely hung, a subtle shift occurred in the atmosphere of the room.
