Um þessa hljóðbók

“Summer” is one of only two novels Edith Wharton wrote that takes place in a rural setting (the other being her classic “Ethan Frome.”) Given the subject matter, the book was considered scandalous in its day, but it is now considered a classic of early 19th century American literature.

The story follows the life and sexual awakening of Charity Royall, a young girl living in a small town who has dreams of moving out of her poverty-stricken community. Courted by both the local rich businessman - her former guardian - and the dashing town ne’er-do-well, Charity starts up a love affair with the younger man. But when her budding romance starts to take a turn...Charity is forced to grow up fast.

Edith Wharton - the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction - is one of the 20th centuries most beloved authors and we are proud to present “Summer” in its original and unabridged format.
