关于此有声读物

The foundations of capitalism are being battered by a flood of altruism, which is the cause of the modern world’s collapse. This is the view of Ayn Rand, a view so radically opposed to prevailing attitudes that it constitutes a major philosophic revolution. In her series of essays, she presents her stand on the persecution of big business, the causes of war, the default of conservatism, and the evils of altruism.

This collection of twenty-six essays includes twenty by Ayn Rand as well as three essays by Alan Greenspan, two by Nathaniel Branden, and one by Robert Hessen. These essays are a challenging look at modern society by some of America’s most provocative intellectuals.

作者简介

Ayn Rand (1905-1982) was a Russian-American novelist, philosopher, playwright, and screenwriter. She is known for her two best-selling novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and for developing a philosophical system she named Objectivism.

Alan Greenspan was born in 1926 and reared in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. After studying the clarinet at Juilliard and working as a professional musician, he earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in economics from New York University. In 1954, he cofounded the economic consulting firm Townsend-Greenspan & Co. From 1974 to 1977, he served as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors under President Gerald Ford. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan appointed him chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, a position he held until his retirement in 2006. He is the author of the number one New York Times bestseller The Age of Turbulence.

Nathaniel Branden is a philosopher, lecturer and practicing psychotherapist. His reputation as an original and challenging thinker began with articles in the Objectivist, a journal of ideas that he co-founded with novelist-philosopher Ayn Rand. He is the renowned author of twenty books, including My Years with Ayn Rand, Taking Responsibility, and The Six Pillars of Self Esteem. His work has been translated into 18 languages and has sold over 4 million copies.

Robert Hessen, a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution, is a historian and author specializing in American economic and business history. He received a BA from Queens College, his MA from Harvard University, and his PhD from Columbia University. He lectures frequently to business and academic audiences on government regulation of industry and has testified before congressional committees. His articles, commentaries, and reviews have appeared in many scholarly and popular publications, including the New York Times, Barron’s, Business History Review, Labor History, the Hastings Law Journal, and the Journal of Law and Economics. Hessen is also the general editor of the Hoover Archival Documentaries, a multivolume series that publishes historically significant materials from the archives of the Hoover Institution.

Kate Fleming (a.k.a. Anna Fields) (1965–2006), winner of more than a dozen Earphones Awards and the prestigious Audie Award in 2004, was one of the most respected narrators in the industry. Trained at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, she was also a director, producer, and technician at her own studio, Cedar House Audio.
