This book was written in 1901. Alexander Hamilton was essential in the story of the formation of the American Union. Hamilton was an influential interpreter and promoter of the U.S. Constitution, as well as the founder of the nation's financial system and the Federalist Party. As the first Secretary of the Treasury, Hamilton was the main author of the economic policies of the George Washington administration.

Charles Arthur Conant (July 2, 1861 – July 5, 1915) was an American journalist, author, and promoter who became recognized as an expert on banking and finance. Conant was also amongst the first economists to articulate the economic utility of speculation on organized stock exchanges. He wrote many articles for periodicals and encyclopedias on American and on Latin-American finance and trade.
