Etsuko Sugimoto (1874-1950) was a Japanese-American writer and educator who taught literature and Japanese studies at Columbia University. Originally destined to be a priestess, she was sent to America from Japan for an arranged marriage. The daughter of a high-ranking samurai official, she also wrote for newspapers and magazines.
