About this app

Researchers at Monash University have developed a diet and corresponding app to assist in management of the gastrointestinal symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The Monash University Low FODMAP diet works by restricting foods high in some carbohydrates called FODMAPs.

The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following:

- General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS.
- Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet.
- A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'.
- A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP.
- A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes.
- Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods
- A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction.
- The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

The app offers nice explanations about how the process works. The tools inside the app are also quite useful. But the way things are listed is quite confusing for me. Apparently nothing has a name, only tags, so oat milk becomes "Oat, Milk" which actually seems "Oat with milk" (from a cow). Also, the number of items is a bit limited.

Hi Maurício, thank you for your review. We really appreciate your feedback about the food naming. The formatting of the names aims to help group similar foods together (e.g. 'berries', 'milk', 'nuts') within the food list. We will review the naming conventions to see if we can provide clarity about situations such as oat milk.

Can't sync the diary on tablet and phone. Works better on tablet. To see the search bar, you have to scroll up every time. Grams and cups serving size is sometimes incorrect? Also, when writing a new diary entry it automatically goes to the previous day, every time... Nonetheless, it is helpful. Hopefully more products will be added.

The app is a great source of reliable information for people starting with the FODMAP diet. Some comments are more focused on minor bugs that the app has, instead on the quality of research and reliable information provided by the team of university scientists. App development is probably not their main scope of work, and if you don't mind some minor bugs, but are looking to learn more about the FODMAP diet, and which foods to avoid, it's a must have app.
