Wagotabi is your daily companion for learning Japanese from scratch, at your own pace, and with maximum immersion. Learn to read, write, and understand Japanese in context, while retaining Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Use your Japanese skills to progress in the adventure offered by this educational game.
Designed in close collaboration with +300 Japanese language experts, official Japanese prefecture tourist associations and thousands of early testers, Wagotabi provides you with an immersive approach to language learning following a graded reader approach. Words and grammar points are introduced according to the JLPT standard, beginning with N5.

played up to the latest update 4/2025, and this app is impressive. as a beginner, I couldn't recommend this enough. While the development is ongoing, what it has is incredible. the mini-game for kana definitely helped hammer in those, and the vocab match game still teaches me. the grammar explanations are well done, and the gameplay itself is incredibly immersive. I'll admit some parts are tough but worth it, and make sense when you figure them out. 10 stars, can't wait for further development.

Love this app. Love how much effort was put into providing everything you learn as a resource to reference grammatical theory, revise what you know, and test yourself in gamified exams. You can filter everything you've learned by highly customisable metadata to focus on the stuff you struggle with. I mostly check back on verbs and particles but also revise complete lessons. As a game, its topics are not very organised. Use joined with the Kana writing app by Jerung, and structured grammar books.

I really love the potential, but one thing bothers me. During some battles when I can't answer correctly, I get stuck. The game doesn't correct your mistakes or guide you. Wrong answers just end the battle, leaving you with no idea what was wrong nor how to fix it. As a result, I can't progress past that point in the game. So I'm just stuck.

In battles, for multiple choice questions, the wrong picked up answer is put in red, and the correct one in green.
When asked to type a word with the keyboard, wrong characters are put in red, and correct ones in green.
Finally, when building a sentence, the correct expected sentence is displayed if making a mistake.
